CHARACTER NAME: Colress
CHARACTER SERIES: Pokemon gameverse! Most recent canonpoint is Pokemon Sun/Moon/USUM, but he can also be from Pokemon Black2/White2 or other past iterations depending on the thread, I'm flexible.
AGE: ??? Probably somewhere in his twenties, I'm ballparking ~25
HEIGHT: Also ??? but probably a decently tall guy, maybe just under 6'?
NOTES: I try to stick to his gameverse characterization for the most part! Where he tends to approach most things with more of a scientifically neutral mindset--sincerely pleasant as a personality, but sometimes jarringly off-putting with his methods and general absence of solid moral boundaries. If pulled from the USUM canonpoint, he seems to have undergone just enough development to be a bit more cognizant of his worse tendencies...! Even if he's still prone to backsliding into them sometimes for science. Progress?! Overall, I haven't dug too deep into his appearances in the anime and manga yet so I'm less familiar with those instances. But I may still lift little details from them too, once I finally get around to it!
[OOC]
Backtagging: ✔
Definitely fine with continuing a thread as long as we like! In general I tend to be on the slower side of tag speed anyhow, though I'll try to tag back at least once every couple days.
Tagging style: ☐
I tend to default to action brackets, but prose is fine too! I'll match format with starters either way; otherwise, feel free to let me know if you have a preference! I also tend to lean into introspection or at least flavor text even in texting threads, so alas I'm not much of a boomeranger
Threadhopping: ☐
Ask me!
Fourthwalling: ☐
In-universe recognition along the lines of "wait weren't you a member of Team Plasma" or "isn't this that guy responsible for freezing an entire city in Unova that one time???" would be fun and fair game! But I'd prefer to pass on more literal fourth-walling along the "you're a fictional character" angles.
Offensive subjects: ✔
None particularly! Ask if in doubt.
Shipping: ✔
Anything's possible I guess?! He's already married to science and is perpetually in the honeymoon phase so it's, uh, probably gonna take some patience...but if your character's still willing to give it a shot, more power to them! He'll be rather slow on the uptake and fumbling with the process, though, should he realize he actually wants to reciprocate. Open to m/f or m/m with adult characters!
Warnings: ➰
Yes his hair really is that stupid. Please feel absolutely free to ICly squint at it. Otherwise nothing much! I'll let you know if something comes up
[IC]
Hugging this character: ✔
Surprising but he'll roll with it? Probably won't hug back though, awkward
Kissing this character: ✔
Even more surprising?? Almost definitely won't kiss back, exponentially awkward
Flirting with this character: ✔
But you'll have to be pretty blatant before he actually notices it's happening
Fighting with this character: ✔
But check in first! Don't let his height and/or huge coat deceive, he's still a noodly nerd you could absolutely shove into a locker. May potentially have pocket tech or pocket monsters on hand that are a different matter entirely, though!
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): ✔
But ask me first about anything worse than bruising, if you please!
Killing this character: ✖
Unless it's a murder meme or we've discussed this!
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: ✔
Feel free to extrapolate from his brackets or ask me for more details! Colress himself is a garden variety human with no brain powers to speak of so he probably won't even notice it happening--but if his Beheeyem happens to be out of its pokeball and physically nearby, it may detect this in his stead, and is likely to be quite unhappy about it!
BIO-ISH THING
- A scientist first and foremost; his passion for science dictates all that he does. He's not afraid to admit this, either, and will probably tell you as much the moment he introduces himself. For many years his focus was pinning down "the best way to draw out the strength of Pokemon", but lately he's accrued enough data to finally come to a comfortable conclusion about that. As of his most recent canonpoint, he's been travelling in search of a new topic of study, and leaves off on a
- Downright pleasant to interact with. His manner is generally polite and cheery, if not at least very calm. He likes to hear the sound of his own voice, but he usually has genuine interest in the conversation and the person he's talking to, and he typically says whatever first comes to mind with little hesitation.
- Very self-assured and confident. Almost any manner of insult or teasing is likely to roll right off his back like water off a Ducklett's--if it's factually untrue or largely irrelevant he has no reason to take stock in it, after all. It is also a self-verified fact that he's very good at what he does and can only improve to even higher degrees; somebody ought to be proud of that, and it may as well be him!
- He generally does what he wants, when he wants, in whatever manner he so pleases. Sometimes this means showing up out of nowhere in places you'd least expect him to be; sometimes this means shamelessly ollying the fuck out of dodge the moment he thinks his work is done here. He's never been loyal to anyone but himself and science, and tends to maintain alliances for only as long as they're convenient. Terrible villain organization material tbh
- Again, science is always his first priority at the end of the day. Once he has a question, he will stop at nothing to find the singular true answer, no matter what it takes. If that means indulging in the Power of Friendship sometimes, then so be it! If that means dabbling in the torture of godlike beings sometimes, then so be it! And if the world ends up getting destroyed in the process, then so be it...
- It's not to say that he has no morals, though! ...Ok "morals" is a very strong word, but he does seem to have preferences. He likes people, and he likes Pokemon, and he likes the pleasant things that life can dispense when you insert pleasantries of your own--the way any typical human being prefers the comfort of friendly concepts. Cruelty for cruelty's sake is a distasteful affair to him, to the point that he despises people who wholeheartedly partake in it (fuck off Ghetsis). But his preferences cannot trump the needs of science--he will not allow them to--so if immoral methods are what it takes to extract the most optimal result, then immoral methods are what must be done. ...Unless the moral methods are even better, in which case he's all for that! Exactly what it takes to get there is negotiable; he just wants the answer.
- Second only to his passion for general science is his passion for the power of Pokemon. He's an exceptionally accomplished Trainer, and part of the reason his initial research subject was Pokemon potential for so long was because he wanted to confirm the correct way to draw out the best possible results from Pokemon in battle. Not even to guarantee victory, really, but just to guarantee that he's doing the best one can do with what one has. (But he can still be a competitive bastard that just likes a good challenge sometimes. High-stakes battles against superior opponents are the highlight of his day, he gets pretty hype about it)
- As of Pokemon Sun/Moon/USUM he's pretty much come to a definitive conclusion on Pokemon potential. (Spoilers: the Power of Friendship wins every time, he has scientifically confirmed it.) He's been trying to apply these findings to his conduct accordingly. He's getting really into dimensional warping lately, though! The horizons are wide and he's ready to Investigate them
- He considers it more of a side hobby to his research pursuits, but Colress is still possibly one of the most talented inventors in the Pokeverse currently. He builds a lot of small devices that can do a lot of different things, mostly just for the sake of seeing if he can; having no specialization, he's ended up creating a lot of weirdly specific stuff in a wide variety, ranging from "a tool that motivates tired giant dirt crabs to Get Out of The Way" to "weapon that can harness an ancient ice dragon's energy to flash-freeze an entire city" to "device that can merge two demi-god creatures into a singular being, and also perfectly separate them again, however many times you want". He tends to call these things Colress Machines (because he's very talented with naming things too), and has built 1,199 different appliances to date. The early machines would break after literally one use, but he's gotten much better at durability lately! Give him an idea and materials and a sufficient amount of time, and he'll...well, he may not build what you actually requested, but he'll likely try to make something both vaguely related and (in his opinion) ten times better.
